Claire Bradley Elected New IGRS Ireland Branch Chairperson

At the Annual General Meeting of the IGRS Ireland Branch a new chairperson was elected in place of outgoing chairperson,  Máire Mac Conghail. The new chairperson is Claire Bradley.

New Ireland Branch Chairperson, Claire Bradley, with IGRS Chairman, Steven Smyrl.

Claire joined the IGRS in 2012 and became a member of Ireland Branch committee the same year.  She was elected as the IB’s Honorary Secretary in 2014 and was appointed to the London based Council later the same year. Claire published her first major article on genealogy (‘A history of the Davis-Goff family of Horetown, Co. Wexford and Glenville, Co. Waterford’) in the 2015 edition of the Society’s annual journal, The Irish Genealogist.

Claire is Dublin born and bred. Her ancestry is mostly from the Dublin area, though she has minor branches from Limerick, Pembrokeshire in Wales and Scotland.  She became interested in genealogy at the young age of 12 and picked it up seriously after finishing university. She completed the UCD certificate in family history in 2011 and has worked as freelance genealogist since then. Additionally, she teaches a regular beginners genealogy class.

After Claire’s election IGRS Chairman, Steven Smyrl, said “Claire will no doubt bring to her work as chairperson the same dynamism, dedication and skill that she has shown during her time as the Ireland Branch honorary secretary. She has excellent skills which will enable her to guide the Branch as it continues to grow and prosper, building on the invaluable work of her predecessor, Máire Mac Conghail.
