First Update To Early Irish Birth Index

Example of Admiralty Passing Certificate, TNA.

The Society’s Early Irish Birth Index, launched in February at RootsTech 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, has now had a further 1,000 entries added to it.

These have mainly come from census records from counties Tyrone, Waterford, Fermanagh and Meath; memorial Inscriptions from Wexford; and Admiralty Passing Certificates held at The National Archives (TNA, UK). The database, which is a members-only collection, now comprises just over 6,000 alternative records for births.

Below is an example from the database of details gleaned from a gravestone inscription which enables one to establish that Felix Murphy was born in Co. Tipperary in approximately 1706. Click the image for a better view.

Have you searched the database? Are any of your ancestors noted? If so, we’d love to know how it’s helped. Please drop us a note via the Contact Form.

The Index can be accessed via the Members Area.

Good luck!
