I would like to recommend Charles Egan’s novels about the famine which are based on his own family. The period has been well-researched and covers the multi-faceted experiences of various levels of society both in Ireland and abroad. The trilogy is: ‘The Killing Snows’, ‘The Exile Breed’ and ‘Cold is the Dawn’.
