There is a village of 22 houses described by John O’Donovan in the name books for Athleague parish, Galway, and it is recorded on the OS map of 1838. There is no village there in the 1749 Synge Census. Who would have built those houses? I found a Deed dated 1787 that transferred the Estate to Letice Walcot and she leased the property to her Land Agent, John Thewles in her Will of 1795. He had already been living there for several years prior. Would there be any reference to the village in the Grand Jury Presentments, or was that only for roads, bridges, etc. How can I find out when the village was created? Any direction would be much appreciated. Thanks.
