Anyone researching this unusual name?  Believe I’ve got back to Martin and Elizabeth Jestin who had a 9 children baptised in Abbeyleix between 1781 and 1803. The present church located in the village dates from much later and I believe that the original parish church is on the private estate of the De Vesey family.  Does anyone know of any old monumental inscriptions for it?  2 of the Jestin daughters married into the Dreaper family, Elizabeth to Richard in 1828 and Catherine to James in 1816 and both moved to Castlecomer in Co. Kilkenny.  Another sister, Margaret, married Joseph Empson in 1823 and moved with him to his native city of Kilkenny.  I’ve followed the family branches forward and have quite a bit of information but I’m curious to know where the roots of the name Jestin come from and how they came to be in Abbeyleix.
