What religious order did she belong to? Have you tried their archives in Ireland?

If she died in Australia have you tried looking for her in Australian newspapers at the free site http://trove.nla.gov.au/

    H Mary/Jill,

Thanks for your suggestions. She does indeed have an obituary on Trove which states she joined the Sisters of Mercy. She entered the Convent of Mercy, Baggot Street Dublin on 4th April 1846. Would it be appropriate for me to email them and ask for info do you think?

    Thanks

Yes do contact them and ask where their archives are held and how you can find out more about Laura. These early entrants were usually well documented. Also ask if their are any printed histories about the early days of the order. I have always found the archivist in convents are very helpful. Most convents kept quite detailed records of their entrants including names of mother and father. Sounds a lovely search…..
