My ggg grandfather Captain John O’Hea served in the North Cork Militia in 1798 under the command of Viscount Kingsborough. During this time he was taken prisoner with his commanding officer Lord Kingsborough. Both were taken out three times to be shot. However, they were kept as hostages to be exchanged for valuable prisoners.

Interested to find out information on North Cork Militia, especially if it is possible to find John’s personnel record in the Militia

Hello Bernie (and everyone – this is my first post!)

I found this record of the N. Cork Militia online:  I didn’t read it all, however, your great, etc, grandfather is mentioned at the start. You might also try military records from Ancestry.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Tri5ia,

    Thanks for this information.
