Your Personal Data and the IGRS
What data do we collect and store about you?
We are a charitable membership organisation registered in the United Kingdom and we process all personal data according to the prevailing UK data protection laws.
When you join the Society we ask you to provide us with some personal contact information in order for us to deliver the benefits of membership to you. By supplying us with this information you are giving us your consent to use this data as follows;
- Your name and email address is used to deliver regular newsletters and e-bulletins and keep you informed about the activities of the Society from time to time,
- Your name and home address is used to send you our journal, The Irish Genealogist, annually,
- When you activate your membership via our website you create an online profile with a username, password and geographical location, all of which allows you to access exclusive member content online and participate in the Members’ Forum.
All of your personal data is stored securely and is never shared with any other third party organisations, unless it is required in order to fulfil our obligations in the provision of member benefits. We never confer permission on third parties to use your personal data for their own marketing purposes.
We do not hold any financial data regarding your membership. All such transactions take place securely beyond our systems either via Paypal or via your own bank e.g. as either a standing order or a direct payment.
We do not store credit card details nor do we share financial details with any 3rd parties.
Payment Flow & Delivery
The payment made via Paypal is either for membership of the Society or to purchase digital images. Where membership is purchased, you will be automatically able to use the website once payment is made. A member of our volunteer membership team will contact you by email within a few days with your welcome package. Where a digital image has been purchased, depending on which category of image, you will either be able to view it immediately, or in the case of older images, a member of our secretarial team (also volunteers) will email the image within a few days.
Membership fees cannot be refunded.
Removing your personal data or changing your contact preferences
Should you choose to cancel or not renew your membership, we will remove your personal data from our current membership database. For statistical purposes and to help us direct activities that might attract new members in the future, we maintain a separate, permanent membership roll noting your name, town, country and dates of membership, but which does not contain any other personal contact information. You can request changes to your contact preferences or ask for your data to be removed from our non-permanent databases at any time by completing the contact form on our website.
