We are pleased to announce that we have added approximately 1,000 more entries to our ever growing Early Irish Birth, Marriage and Death Indexes.
Between the three databases there are now 422,134 named individuals: 97,077 in the birth index, 48,530 in the death index, and 276,527 in the marriage index.
Much of this update has been abstracted from memorials recorded in Ireland’s Registry of Deeds and added to this online database: Registry of Deeds Index Project Ireland. Transactions relating to land dealings in Ireland have been recorded at the Registry of Deeds since 1708.

One of the more interesting entries relates to a marriage settlement for Dublin bride-to-be, Sarah Fox. She was hardly a young blushing bride though, because by 1785 she was already twice widowed. She first married Charles Fox in 1765 and after his death, she then married William Grant in St Bride's Church of Ireland parish in September 1778. Grant had died by 1785 when she remarried to Christopher Litton (aka Leighton) in Dublin. Sarah must have been aged at least 40 by the time of her third marriage. Another interesting entry, also a marriage, refers to Anne Carey (nee Lunell) who had first married George Carey of Red Castle, Co. Donegal, in St Michan's Church of Ireland parish in Dublin, in April 1779. George subsequently died, and in 1785 a memorial of a marriage settlement was registered at the Registry of Deeds in anticipation of Anne's marriage to another man also called George Carey, though of Whitecastle, Co. Donegal. It is clear from the other names recorded in the memorial that the two George Careys were cousins. The reference in the marriage settlement to a large legacy from William Lunell, grandfather of the bride, likely played a part in the Carey family quickly marrying off another of their family to the first George Carey's widow.
