Join the Irish Genealogical Research Society (IGRS) for another special event as part of its 90th Anniversary International Lecture Series. This talk explores Irish settlement of the 1840s and 1850s in the new colony, now called Tasmania. The event will be hosted online, via Zoom.

In this talk Maureen Ferris will explore Irish settlement of the 1840s and 1850s in the new colony of Van Diemen's Land, now called Tasmania. Booking is free of charge and open to all.

About Maureen Ferris

Maureen Martin Ferris, MAAGRA, is an Australian historian, genealogist and curator based in Tasmania.  Her Irish ancestors arriving as free settlers to Van Diemen’s Land (now Tasmania) in the 1840s and 1850s. They came from Fermanagh and Kilkenny.

Over four decades Maureen’s professional work has been centred on Tasmanian history.  For fifteen years, until 2022, she was curator of the East Coast Heritage Museum.  She holds credentials as a Member of the Australasian Association of Genealogists and Record Agents.
