Historic Buildings and Those Who Built Them: Building Conservation and the Work of SPAB Ireland

Shóna O'Keeffe is a historic building conservation consultant and researcher working in Dublin. Shóna is the current Chairperson of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) Ireland and is also heavily involved with the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Ireland. 


Via her work in built heritage and with SPAB Ireland, Shóna O'Keeffe will consider the intersections and overlaps between genealogy and historic buildings research. Impact of the builders, architects and past owners of a building will be examined, highlighting the importance of understanding the people involved. The talk will also include an introduction to the SPAB approach to conservation and its activities in Ireland, focusing on the people, past and present, involved in the construction of our built heritage.
