At the Society's Annual General Meeting on 11th May 2024, we announced news regarding our annual journal The Irish Genealogist. Here are some more details.
Firstly, from the 2024 edition onward, we intend to publish and distribute our annual journal in January of the following year. So, you will receive the journal for 2024 in January 2025. This is to help us implement the other changes described below.
In recent years, many members have asked if they can receive a digital copy rather than print copy of the journal. Additionally, due to increased costs of printing and postage providing a hard copy to every member for the current membership fee has become unsustainable. Continuing in this way now threatens the future financial viability of the Society, so we propose the following.
1. The membership fee will be unchanged at £26 (or €30) for this year
2. Every member for whom we hold a valid email address will receive a digital copy of the journal in pdf format
3. Every member will be given the option of purchasing a printed copy of the journal, at an additional cost
In the coming weeks, all members will receive an email providing details of how they can obtain a printed copy of the journal. Please keep an eye out for this email which will provide full details about the changes, including time-frames and costs. Meanwhile, you may like to log onto our website to check and update, if necessary, your email address.
Most importantly, money saved from these changes will be invested in digitising and publishing on the website many more of the Society's unique resources, such as the Michael Leader transcripts of parish registers.
