The Ireland Branch held its Annual General Meeting and lecture on Saturday, 3 October at 2.30pm in the Conference Room of the Gilbert Library, Pearse Street, Dublin.
Two new members were elected to the Ireland Branch Committee, Joan Murphy and Marie McGuinness.
The meeting was followed by a fascinating presentation by Dr. Susan Deedigan, speaking on “The Women of Cumann na mBan, after the Revolution”. She outlined how, though they remained more radical than their male counterparts in Sinn Fein and the IRA, they were gradually sidelined by political and cultural conservatism, by gender bias within and without the Republican movement, and by the demands of raising families and by aging.
