From Arctic Rock in Kerry to folks from Kerry in Antarctica, this presentation tells of men and women from across Ireland who were part of polar enterprises across the centuries.
The search expeditions for Sir John Franklin's lost expedition will feature alongside Shackleton and Crean of the great Antarctic stories. Short profiles of a wide range of Irish individuals will give a sense of polar exploration as a whole.
About Liam Maloney
Liam Maloney undertook BA and MA programmes at the School of History in University College Dublin.
He began polar history with the Shackleton Endurance Exhibition in Dún Laoghaire and has been writing and speaking about polar topics for ten years. He was Historian of the Antarctic Team aboard NCL's 'Norwegian Star' In 2023 and has spoken to local history societies and institutions across the UK and Ireland.
He maintains the 'Shackleton's Endurance' Facebook page and network.
The talk was presented via Zoom by the Ireland Branch of the Society in November 2024. It is now released for all members to view by kind permission of the author and speaker.
